Lipopolysaccharides from Escherichia coli O55:B5 (LPS, E. coli O55:B5) are endotoxins and TLR4 agonists classified as smooth (S-type) LPS. They contain the characteristic three-part structure: an O-antigen, a core oligosaccharide, and lipid A. LPS from E. coli O55:B5 strongly activates TLR4 signaling in immune cells, has high pyrogenic activity, and displays dose- and serotype-dependent effects. It is commonly used to induce inflammatory responses in cell cultures and to establish inflammation-related animal models.
